Tagging oddity

I have a lot of image files on my computer, and I think I’ve begun to forget how a lot of files got on my computer in the first place. I figured that I should clean things up and see if things improve a lot. I’m about halfway through it, and there’s some progress, but there’s something that keeps coming back to me.

Apparently, while sorting tags in my computer’s image files, a lot of unexpected tag suggestions showed up. It’s usually something that actually makes sense… in the right context.

I think I’m going to chalk this up to the fact that my interests have been… a bit strange lately. Seems like it might have something to do with me using these weirder tags in the first place. However, this still doesn’t really explain the other set of weird tags – tags related to computer programming. Developer stuff. Sometimes I even see file names. Or titles of files.

Looks like I have something to figure out on my own. At least it’s something that I can safely put in the back-burner for now. It’s not like it’s something I need to do ASAP, huh?

I think I’m drawing again.

For a very long time, I’ve stuck to drawing on a computer, and on a computer only. I suppose it has to change right now, though, because now I’ve rediscovered the joys of drawing on actual paper. Sometimes, boredom will make you want to do something a bit more unusual, and drawing feels oddly familiar to me, even though it’s been a very, very long time since the last time I did any sort of real drawing on paper.

I suppose drawing things couldn’t hurt, though. It’s probably a great way of spending the time. Still, with the things I have here, and given the amount of space I have on my desk, I think I’ll have to do the colouring on the computer anyway. It’s probably easier said than done, though.

C++ is weird

C++ programming… well, I’ve noticed that it sometimes can seem weird when I’m doing it. Sometimes I get a bit confused when looking at code samples, ending up with me not being quite grasping the code, or what it does… or what it means without actually attempting to compile the code. It’s the same feeling that I’ve had back when I was just dealing with JavaScript. I guess some things never change.

But it’s also a bit refreshing to see something so… structured after a long time dealing with no programming at all. I used to think that programming is a total mess of… well, really messy code that I’d rather not talk about. There really are some things that you really have to try before passing judgment as a whole.

Also, off-topic: I really need to stop spending so much. I think I’m stretching thin now.

Even if nobody else looks at this place…

I will keep on posting on TwigZone. Why? Well, it’s my personal blog. The entire thing is personal to me, and I can’t exactly leave it alone, out in the wild. I suppose you could say that I never attracted much commenting on this site, but this site will still continue to exist for the time being.

University studies can take a good amount of time, but to me, it’s nothing much to worry about, since I do know what to do these days. As long as I am handling things properly, I don’t have anything to worry about. Not that there’s anything to worry about, as I’m comfortably above the required level for getting through my courses, so… well, good news, eh?

Lately, I’ve also begun to diversify my listening tastes. However, there still seems to be some gaps with regards to certain artists that I might have liked in the past, but I have no idea of who they might be today.

I think I also need to get a new laptop… There IS a post regarding this a while before, so if you didn’t notice that, feel free to take a look at that particular post. I’m a bit lazy to link to it right now, so… uh…

Guys, what do you think of them?

Some notes after having a hands-on on most of the laptops listed:

  • All these laptops seem to have the same maximum brightness when it comes to their screens, but the Acer’s screen is undersaturated and yellow-ish compared to others. The Toshiba has some vertical striping pattern on the whole screen which is usually unnoticable. The HP’s screen’s whites are perfect.
  • The Acer trackpad tracks rather poorly with sharp acceleration drop-off. The HP trackpad works well, but has a very rough surface. The Toshiba trackpad is what I feel at home the most – despite it not being clicky, the trackpad is very friendly to gestures and responsive, with a silky-smooth surface.
  • All these laptops are rather hefty. Don’t even think about holding it with just one hand.
  • All of these laptops have keyboards that work equally well. The Acer has a numeric keypad, while the Toshiba has standard-style keys (like older PCs), which I prefer.
  • All these laptops have switchable graphics. They all default to using Intel HD Graphics 4000 while not gaming, which is still faster than the HD Graphics 3000. The GeForces and Radeons kick in once you get into games, for a world of awesome. Checking out NotebookCheck reveals that they should be able to handle modern games at around medium or high settings, even games that are released as recently as yesterday! Some even get maxxed out!
  • The Toshiba and HP are very colourful.
  • All but the HP and Lenovo come with 750 GB of space. The Toshiba’s hard disk is shock-proof. Makes sense for me – I drop things all the time.
  • All the laptops are rather sturdy, but I don’t trust Acer or HP, not with negative feedback.

The Toshiba flies off shelves! Do people really like it?

Looks like I’m into photography now!

Ever since I was young, I’ve always had some interest in photography. Camera phones were a great way for me to pass the time and capture great moments. I’ve been taking photos with a camera phone since, well, 2004, I think. The Nokia 6230 was actually my first camera phone that I use a whole lot, if only because it’s way more convenient than a film camera back then (we didn’t have a digital camera then). I’ve always relied on cameras on phones to take pictures – digital cameras were somehow an afterthought.

Lately, I’ve noticed that I’ve been taking more and more pictures with my smartphone camera, and I’ve been increasingly aware of what should be done to take the ideal picture, even with a rather average smartphone camera. Even then, though, there are limitations that I simply cannot overcome with just a smartphone camera – I need to take my photography to the next level, but how? And how am I going to get help regarding photography?

And right now, I’m in a photography club. I wonder what I’ll get out of my membership in such a club. Sometimes, I have to try everything, or I won’t know what I’ll end up with. Maybe I’ll take even more beautiful pictures after a while in the club. Maybe I’ll get to meet new friends and share great experiences with our photography. Maybe we’ll end up with something really amazing!

I guess this is the time for me to just go straight for an entry-level DSLR. I think it’ll be a while before I actually get one, though, as my parents certainly don’t want me getting a second-hand model. They want me to get my stuff new. Always. This would be a bit more expensive, but this is probably a good thing in the long run. Hope I get something that is good enough! (I certainly find my smartphone good enough, but a real camera felt better when you’re on the move, and they tend to be less sensitive to camera shake.)

I sure hope that I’ll end up with something special soon.

P.S. This is a Pokemon blog, yes, but I do deal with other stuff here. It’s more of a personal blog, but a bit Pokemon-themed, too. Next up, perhaps, a review of Pokemon Black 2/White 2 when it comes to my place via mail!
